On September 25, Everybody Still Hates Chris, the animated sequel series to the popular early 2000’s sitcom, premiered on Comedy Central.

Just as the original, Chris Rock provides the comedic voice over - hilariously expanding on the actions and commentary of the show.

The animated series begins where the original series ended - with Chris (voiced by Tim Johnson Jr)  and his family at a restaurant and him waiting to hear his GED scores from his mom, Rochelle (Tichina Arnold).

And the results are in: You, Chris have failed the GED. Que Chris’s Dad, Julius’s (Terry Crews) frugal mentally as he eagerly snatches Chris’s food away from him to get a refund, because it was supposed to be a celebratory dinner.

If you remember the original series, Chris be going through it; from dealing with his little sister, Tanya (voiced by Ozioma Akagha) , who always seems to have it out for him to his little brother, Drew (voiced by Terrence Little Gardenhigh), who, unlike Chris, has good luck when it comes to the ladies to his inadvertently racially charged teacher turned principal, Ms. Morello (voiced by Jacqueline Mazerella), who seemingly likes Chris but her choice of words come off stereotypical towards Black people. We can’t forget to mention his ongoing battle with being bullied by Joey Caruso.

When he finally figures out a way to avoid having to deal with the drama at school - taking the GED to skip it altogether - he is hit with another milestone.

I decided to drop out because I was taking three buses to a white school where a red head would beat my Black a**,” Rock narrates.

His mom lets him know that he has to go back to school, but he is forced to repeat 10th grade because of how much school he missed. When he returns to school, bestie Greg, (voiced by Gunnar Sizemore), doesn’t want to hang out with him because he has to repeat the 10th grade, but he eventually gives in and they're friends again. Life is lifeing yet again for Chris as he runs into his bully, Caruso, who in true Joey Caruso fashion, plan was to punch him in the face, but is stopped by his friends who warn him of how “dangerous” Chris is now - aka they think he is in a gang.

His bad boy image doesn’t last long as he’s eventually expelled because there’s a zero tolerance for it. He plans to hide it from his parents but Tanya snitches and tells on him. He eventually lets them know that his success at school was hindered because he missed class because his teacher would send him to the principal's office repeatedly, which we all know why.

Aside from Chris, can we get into Rochelle? She was one of my favorite characters because she is a rich woman in a not so rich woman’s body. In order to get a new mattress Rochelle decided to get a job, but her tv history says that she doesn’t last long because she ends up quitting. So, in tv fashion, she visits a temp agency to get a job and ends up working for, or should I say with, her man with two jobs, aka Julius, who got a third job behind her back. I mean, who doesn't listen to Rochelle? Let’s just say her new job doesn’t work out, but she does end up getting her new mattress.

At the end of the episode, we find out there was an error with Chris' test. He used a number 3 pencil instead of the required number 2 pencil. Rochelle ends up getting Chris back in school by threatening that she will take legal action because of all the drama he endured.

Overall, I do recommend this series if you were a fan of the original. If you are yearning for a sense of nostalgia from the early 2000's, this animated series will definitely take you down memory lane. The characters are still seemingly the same, even though some are voiced by different actors.
