If you’re looking for the perfect early Christmas gift to surprise your mom, aunt, grandmother, or even yourself with, look no further, because a Luther Vandross exhibit has made its way to downtown Los Angeles. Luther Vandross: Artistry and Elegance has opened at the Grammy Museum and will celebrate the life and legacy that he has left the world with. He is an eight-time Grammy winning singer, songwriter, producer, vocalist, and performer, whose many hats are being honored.
The exhibit opened Wednesday, November 20 and will close Sunday, June 15, 2025. Fans can enjoy viewing the hand-beaded suits and jumpsuits he and his background singers wore during the Power of Love Tour in 1991, six of his eight Grammy Awards, handwritten studio notes and lyrics he wrote for “I Can Make It Better,” original fashion sketches of his wardrobe, an emerald green hand-beaded suit and two matching gowns worn by his background singers, alongside his black tuxedo from his 1993-1994 performances.
His continuous legacy consisted of selling over 40 million records worldwide, crafting eleven consecutive RIAA-certified platinum albums, being cited as an inspiration to a plethora of artists including Usher and Ne-Yo, and is a recipient of eight Grammy Awards, four Soul Train Music Awards, nine American Music Awards, and a plethora of nominations. In 2008, he was ranked number 54 on Rolling Stone Magazine’s “List of 100 Greatest Singers Of All Time.” The list goes on and on for the amazing work Vandross has created and the paths he has paved for some of today’s most talented artists.
The Grammy Museum is located in Downtown Los Angeles’s L.A. Live and consists of four floors of musical artifacts, interactive exhibits, a 200 seat Clive Davis Theater, and more. Past exhibits include: Michael Jackson, Tupac, Bob Marley, and many others.
